The redevelopment of a police and fire station along U Street could be moving forward.
DC's Office of Planning recently filed a map amendment application with the city's Zoning Commission to change the zoning designation for DC fire station 9 at 1617 U Street NW and the Third District police station at 1620 V Street NW to allow for medium-to-high density development. Details of that zoning change are included in the table below.

"The map amendment would enable the provision of more market rate housing and affordable housing, which would help mitigate rising housing costs that affect households of color disproportionately," an Office of Planning report stated. "It would enable the retention of District public service jobs for which persons of color are actively recruited."
At DC's March Madness housing event in March 2022, a Request for Proposals (RFP) was announced for the police and fire station site, envisioning a new high-density, mixed-use development that will include the existing police station and fire station. DC has yet to release that RFP.
