Inside the Saint Elias Church
It appears that nothing is off limits these days when it comes to properties that people are willing to convert to private residences, so the fact that a church is on the market in New York City may not come as a surprise to many people.
The New York real estate blog Curbed recently reported that the Saint Elias Church in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn hit the market for $3.4 million. Actually, that is the price just for the sanctuary; for $3.7 million, you can get the Sunday school as well.
Curbed notes that the church came on the market last year with no asking price, which was not enticing enough to attract any “buyers (that) wanted to go through the conversion process.” The 8,000 square-foot property has already been approved for residential conversion and according to the listing description “the space can be converted to a majestic and unique single family home, or a live/work space perfect for any photographer, artist, musician, designer or anyone with a need for dramatic open space.”
Chances are that most of us have nodded off in the middle of a sermon before, but if you buy this church, you can get some truly guilt-free rest in a sanctuary!
