DCmud is reporting that a major mixed-use project in Alexandria is this close to getting the final green light from the city government. The site of the four-tower project is at the intersection of Mill Road and Eisenhower Avenue, a stone’s throw from the Eisenhower Avenue Metro station on the Yellow Line (see map).
Two of the towers would be residential and the other two commercial. The project would be a very large one for Alexandria and indeed for the whole metro area. From DCmud:
The buildings will weigh in at 22 stories and 19 stories for the residential towers, and at 15 stories and 13 stories for the office towers, the combination of which will include a 515-space parking garage, 5,700 square feet of ground floor retail and 485 residential units. Not small beans for a DC area project.

For more history on the project, which has been in various stages of planning for over four years, see this December 2008 post.
