HPO Recommends Approval For 45-Unit Condo Development Pitched For Former Church Site in Shaw
Back in February, UrbanTurf reported on a plan to redevelop a pair of former church properties in Shaw into a large new condo project. Now, the new development has been given a nudge towards approval.
The Historic Preservation Office (HPO) report on the 45-unit condo development recommends the Review Board (HPRB) find the concept compatible and consistent with the historic district at their May meeting later this week.

Last year, Shiloh Baptist Church selected Monarch Urban to redevelop 1515 9th Street NW (map) into a residential development. The site currently consists of a two-story commercial building and a surface parking lot.
The new development, designed by KASA Architecture, will consist of a mix of one- and two-bedroom residences. The development team is pursuing a map amendment to rezone the site and as part of the map amendment, the project will be subject to Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) Plus and will be required to set aside 18% of the condos for IZ units.
The development was previously in front of the HPRB in March. The Board recommended a number of design changes that are reflected in the concept up for approval later this week.
