Home Alone House Listed for $2.4 Million

Remember the cozy suburban home in 1990’s holiday blockbuster Home Alone? Our sister site in Chicago reports that it can be yours for $2.4 million.

Located near Chicago in the North Shore suburb of Winnetka, the brick home was originally built in the 1920s and is currently listed for sale for the first time since the iconic movie was filmed. It has fourteen rooms, many of which were featured in the popular film. You’ll likely recognize the staircase in the entryway that Kevin famously sledded down, as well as his top floor attic bedroom that’s (unfortunately for Kevin) separated from the rest of the 4,250-square-foot home. The listing describes his top floor hideaway as “a dormered and finished retreat with numerous nooks and crannies and two grand suites,” which sounds to us much more luxe than it appeared in the film.

Unfortunately, the tree house that Kevin used as part of his plan to defend the house from the infamous Wet Bandits is no longer on the property, and the home’s interior decor has been updated since the film wrapped. However, the floor plan and the exterior remain the same.

The address itself is kept hidden to protect the owner’s privacy, but a bit of digital sleuthing uncovers the fact that this property is located at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka.

There are no open houses planned and appointments are open to pre-qualified buyers only. And while we’d love to visit ourselves, we understand why the listing agent would want to keep the gawkers at bay, especially since the home is a somewhat infamous tourist destination. They are doing a serious marketing push for the property, however: there is a special microsite, a Facebook page, a Twitter hashtag, and the home was even featured on WGNTV’s morning show yesterday.

We did some investigating into comparable properties, and found that one nearby six bedroom, 4.5 bath home recently went under contract, and it was last listed at $1,399,000. Another nearby five bedroom, 5.5 bath home is currently on the market for $1,875,000.

However, “the $2.4 million isn’t just because of its cinematic history,” said the home’s listing agent, Marissa Hopkins of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in the Chicago Tribune. “It really is a residential masterpiece.” But commenters on the Tribune article pointed out that the home’s Zillow Zestimate only valued the property at $1,380,000.
