Former Bulgarian Embassy Hits the Market
1629 Van Buren Street
A massive home between Shepherd Park and Brightwood that used to house the Bulgarian Embassy recently hit the market for $1.425 million.
The seven-bedroom home at 1629 Van Buren Street NW (map) is located on two lots overlooking Rock Creek Park. The property was renovated in late-2011, and has features including a massive “great room” and a dining room that measures out at 25 feet by 14 feet.
The other notable thing about the recently-listed house is that it is now the most expensive home on the market in either Brightwood or Shepherd Park.
Former embassies going the residential route is nothing new in DC. The former Italian Embassy is being converted into a multi-family project, and the Central African Republic Embassy on 22nd Street was sold last year and is being turned into a single-family home.
