Fingerprint Entry, Not One But Two Pools: The Details of a $15 Million Bethesda Estate

A 15,000 square-foot home will be listed for sale later this week that may set a new bar for luxury in Montgomery County.

8801 Fernwood Road (map) is a six-bedroom house that sits on one of the largest lots in Bethesda and was renovated meticulously with the help of a Los Angeles design firm. The home will be listed with Daniel Heider of TTR Sotheby's International Realty for $14.995 million on Thursday, making it the most expensive home on the market in the county.

Many things come in pairs at this sprawling listing. There are two pools (indoor and outdoor), two elevators, two sets of staircases, two primary suites, and two generators. An ELAN system controls several aspects of the home, including the 21 security cameras, the lights, music, and HVAC systems, and even the biometric fingerprint access at the front door.

The home sits on the largest lot to be offered for sale in the Bradley Hills Grove section of Bethesda in more than a decade, as the current owner bought the the adjoining lot after purchasing the home.

Other standout features of the property include a 19-foot tall entryway, a chef's kitchen with twin wall ovens and a 48-inch commercial range, an outdoor kitchen, a steam room and workout room next to the indoor pool on the lower level, and an outdoor tennis and basketball court.
