A Georgetown project that has long been in the works for the eastern side of the neighborhood may be delayed a bit longer.

Developer EastBanc has filed a one-year extension of its approved planned unit development to build a five-story, seven-unit building at 2715 Pennsylvania Avenue NW (map)

Unlike many extensions that have been filed with DC's Zoning Commission recently that focus on difficulty finding financing or rising construction costs, this extension is because the development site used to be a gas station, and the city removed the site from a program aimed at remediating potentially leaking underground gas tanks.

"When the time came to file their plans, the Applicant learned that the District Department of Energy and Environment removed the site from its Voluntary Remediation Action Program (VRAP)," the application stated. "The VRAP application package had to be redone in order to comply with the current DOEE requirements. The revisions to the VRAP application package triggered the redesign of drawings for the Support of Excavation Permit and the Foundation to Grade Permit."

The plans for the development, which has been in the works for about a decade, include residences that will average 2,000 square feet, as well as a restaurant on the ground floor. Souto Moura Arquitectos is the designer and CORE architecture + design, inc. is the architect of record.
