Dupont Circle Condo Project Gets Haircut

On Thursday morning, Trout Design Studio went before the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) to present the revised design of a Dupont Circle condo project planned for above an existing Connecticut Avenue office building.
When UrbanTurf reported on the project back in January, the firm had plans to put two additional stories on top of an existing five-story building. 1337 Connecticut Avenue NW is currently entirely commercial, and the firm planned to make the top three stories — the fifth, sixth, and seventh — residential.

Now, Trout has adjusted their plans, eliminating the seventh story, and the sixth story will be set back from the street by 24 feet.
HPRB was largely supportive of the revised plan, but has asked the firm to create a strategy for restoring the existing building, as well to put more thought into the 18th Street NW facade (the building fronts both Connecticut Avenue and 18th Street in a highly-trafficked Dupont Circle location). Currently, the design of the addition uses contemporary materials, like metal and glass, in a manner that “speaks the language” of the overall building.
UrbanTurf will try and get our hands on a copy of the newest rendering, and will keep you updated on the project.
