Donald Trump took a break from the presidential campaign trail to visit his company’s hotel construction site at the Old Post Office Pavilion on Monday, where he announced that the hotel is on schedule to open in September.
“The rooms are almost complete and will be luxury, super luxury,” Trump said. “We are two years ahead of schedule.” This was about the extent of the hotel discussion before the questions turned more political in nature.

Trump is spending $200 million transforming the Old Post Office Pavilion on Pennsylvania Avenue (map) into a 263-room luxury hotel. Among the over-the-top features are a 6,300-square-foot presidential suite (one of three), and a 13,200-square-foot ballroom.
Trump Hotel Collection was selected by the General Services Administration in 2012 to redevelop the building. The federal government still owns the property, but Trump has a 60-year lease.
