A new listing just hit the market in DC that would set a record if it fetches its lofty listing price.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Blaine Mansion, a Gilded-Age property in the middle of Dupont Circle (map), hit the market for $29.5 million with Daniel Heider of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty. If the listing fetches its asking price, it would be the most expensive residential property ever sold in the city.

According to the Journal, the property is owned by diplomat and lawyer John R. Phillips and his wife, former Obama administration communications adviser Linda Douglass. The 23,600 square-foot house is split in its use, with offices on the lower floors and a four-bedroom penthouse with a private swimming pool on the upper two levels. The couple has spent $25 million renovating the property since purchasing it 17 years ago.

The property has hosted politicians so frequently, according to the Journal, that the Secret Service has become quite familiar with the residence.

"Sometimes the Secret Service would be at the house for up to a week preparing for a visit if it was a formal event appearing on President Obama’s public calendar, Mr. Phillips said. They also installed hardline phone wires in the garage so the president could take calls there if required."
