DC Loves Looking at Uber-Expensive Homes

On the market: 4400 Garfield Street NW
Back in April, UrbanTurf took a look at the top 50 most popular listings on the DC Redfin website to try and get an (admittedly unscientific) idea of the price range and neighborhoods that area home buyers were interested in. One of the things that the data revealed was that not one property in the top 50 was listed for over $1 million, which we concluded probably said more about the demographics of the people using the website rather than the prevalence of luxury home buyers in the District.
Well, either home buyers with money to spend have discovered the website in the past few months or DC residents have developed a newfound love for taking a peek at high-end homes. Currently, 7 of the top 10 listings in the most popular section are not just million-dollar homes, but some of the most expensive homes on the market right now within the DC borders.
Usually when something like this happens, there is a fairly easy explanation. For example, the most popular listing right now is 1824 R Street NW, a $15.5 million home with an interesting history that has been linked to by the local blogosphere frequently over the last month. However, the reasoning behind the prevalence of high-end homes in the rest of the top ten is not immediately clear. Unless, of course, the luxury housing market in DC is indeed making a comeback.
