Continuing the trend of going in the opposite direction of the rest of the country, the DC region was one of two metropolitan areas (Las Vegas being the other) that posted price gains in the Case Shiller report released recently. Nationally, home prices in the 20-city index decreased two percent overall in the third quarter.
Case Shiller September 2010
The Case Shiller report showed that prices in the DC area increased slightly (0.3 percent) between August and September 2010, but increased 4.5 percent from September 2009 to September 2010.
The press release from Standard and Poor’s about today’s report noted that while housing prices nationally are still above their spring 2009 lows, “the end of the tax incentives and still active foreclosures appear to be weighing down the market.”
