On Saturday, the Arlington County Board unanimously approved the massive, five-building PenPlace development on the boards for Pentagon City.
The plans for the Vornado project are for four office buildings of between 18 and 22-stories and an 18-story, 300-room hotel. It will also have approximately 50,000 square feet of retail space and two acres of “open community space.” The development is planned for a nine-acre plot adjacent to the Residence Inn Arlington Pentagon City (map).
What the project will most likely not include is a residential component. Despite protests from area residents that the development needed one building of apartments or condos, the board did not endorse a residential portion, citing that there was already enough new housing in the works for the area.
The project is not expected to be complete until 2023, at the earliest.
