Best New Listings: Looks Are Deceiving

In this week’s edition of Best New Listings, we look at a Palisades home with a tropical vibe, a top floor condo on 16th Street, and a Chevy Chase home with a deceptively diminutive facade.
Sunny Top Floor Unit on 16th Street
For those wanting to be close to Rock Creek Park and the big box stores of Columbia Heights, this one-bedroom condo is a good option. The modestly sized unit has more charm than a typical condo, with arched doorways, a separate dining area, decorative swoops on the bathroom fixtures, and recessed lighting. The well-maintained listing also has a pretty big living room, an updated kitchen and lots of windows.

Wraparound Porch in the Palisades
This Palisades five-bedroom is one of those expansive homes that has plenty of cool rooms to hang out in, like an enclosed sunroom with a peaked ceiling and an office lined with bookshelves. Like the wraparound porch, the master bedroom looks like it would fit in a tropical setting: the bed is under a cathedral ceiling made of dark wood, and French doors open up to a balcony. The fireplace, however, brings the room back to the reality of cold winters. The home also has a large landscaped yard and a lower-level in-law suite.

Larger Than It Looks in Chevy Chase
While we find the peaked facade of this Chevy Chase home adorable, the home is larger than it appears from the outside. With 2,100 square feet, it has about as much interior square footage as the Palisades home that we featured above. The four-bedroom has several sitting areas, a greenhouse-like sunroom with all-glass walls, a cozy den lined with bookshelves, and a large office lined with even more shelves. There is also a sauna on the lower level. An unusual room off of the master bedroom, with a cave-like curved ceiling, could be used as an office or nursery.
