While examples of listings selling for above asking price are abundant, UrbanTurf is switching things up this week with an installment of Below Asking, highlighting three recently-featured listings that sold for under asking price.

$360,000 Below for 5,500 Square Feet in Alexandria

Despite only being on the market for 9 days, this 5,500 square-foot house on an acre-sized corner lot in Alexandria sold for $360,000 below its original asking price. A couple of steps down from the skylit foyer, the great room has a panel fireplace made of Maryland-sourced stone on either end, exposed beams beneath the vaulted ceiling, and three 20 foot-high dormers that evoke a skylight. Below, three sets of paned french doors open onto the lanai, which has radiant heat and is also accessible from the kitchen and the owner's bedroom. The latter spans the width of the house and has built-in shelving on either side of a closet, a raised brick fireplace, and a dressing room-like closet. The house also includes a wood-paneled office, storage, a studio with plate mirrors, and a sauna on the lower level, and the property has a kidney-shaped pool.

$64,000 Off for a Palisades Cottage

This cottage-like two-bedroom in the Palisades spent about a month on the market and had one price reduction before going under contract for $64,000 below the original asking price. The house is packed with charms, starting with the wide screened-in front porch and its painted beams. Wood beams float beneath the ceiling throughout the living and dining rooms, fanning out from the corner that demarcates the two. $250,000 Below Asking After a Year

Considering that this turn-of-the-century Cleveland Park Queen Anne-style house spent nearly a year on the market (minus a few months when the listing was removed), it stands to reason that it would sell for below the original asking price. The house boasts a round turret surrounded by a wraparound porch, and the turret creates a rounded bay in the living room and in the owner's bedroom above. Built-ins abound everywhere from the foyer (a bench) to the dining room (shelving on either side of a fireplace), and the family room has backyard access and a recessed display cabinet.
