Arlington Will Add 15,800 Affordable Units Over Next 25 Years

On Saturday, the Arlington County Board unanimously adopted the county’s proposed Affordable Housing Master Plan.
“This affordable housing plan continues our long tradition of providing housing so that individuals of all ages, races and incomes can come together to make a great community we can all call home.” said Arlington County Board Chair Mary Hynes.
The plan is organized around three goals with the main focus being to increase supply of affordable residential units in the county over the coming decades. Since 2000, Arlington County has seen 13,000 designated affordable units disappear as a result of development and rising rents.
The plan calls for about 18 percent of the housing stock in the County to be affordable to renters with incomes at or below 60 percent of the area median income by 2040. That means that 15,800 units affordable to those making under 60 percent AMI would need to be added over the next 25 years.
