Arlington County Board Approves Plan For 128-Unit Affordable Development at Goodwill Site

The all-affordable residential development pitched for the site of a Goodwill store in Arlington got a key approval over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Arlington County Board unanimously approved plans from Goodwill and Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) for a 128-unit development at the site of the Goodwill retail store and donation center at the intersection of South Glebe Road and Arlington Boulevard (map).

The six-floor project will consist of five levels of affordable housing above a new Goodwill store and donation center, and the units would be for residents earning up to 60% area median income. The new development will also have 3,000 square feet for a child care center.
"This is the first Goodwill and affordable housing co-location of its kind in the country, setting a precedent for the power of mission-aligned, local, nonprofit partnerships,” Catherine Meloy, President and CEO of Goodwill of Greater Washington, said in a release.
