Within the next year, you may be able to control the lights, the security system and the appliances in your home, all through your iPhone.
On Monday, The Financial Times reported (subscription required) that Apple is going to be taking a deep dive into the world of smart home technology, and will announce their plan to do so at the Worldwide Developer Conference next week.
From FT:
Apple is readying a new software platform that would turn the iPhone into a remote control for lights, security systems and other household appliances, as part of a move into the “internet of things”.
The new platform would be built into the iPhone as opposed to spread over a variety of different apps. The Worldwide Developer Conference will take place on June 2.
