The development team -- MRP Realty, Capri Investment Group and CSG Urban Partners -- proposes 108,000 square feet of new Class A office space for the NAACP and DC agencies, a 24,000 square foot plaza, 322 mixed-income apartments, and a 116-key hotel. The retail space will include a restaurant from Top Chef participant Carla Hall and a comedy club from Dave Chapelle.
A 17,000 public plaza would be named for Frederick Douglass, and the project will provide space for The Alvin Ailey School, the Viva School of Dance and the Washington Jazz Arts Institute. PGN Architects and Michael Marshall Design are the project architects.
“The Reeves Center is symbolic of DC’s resilience, and as we make our comeback – this is an opportunity to double down on our commitment making our prosperity more inclusive and preserving the history and culture of our community,” said Mayor Bowser. “As we welcome the NAACP to DC, we are being intentional about redeveloping this site so that it meets the needs of our residents and moves us toward a more equitable future.”
Construction on the redevelopment would take just over three years and could begin in 2025.
