Another Divine Nine Senior Housing Redevelopment Proposed For 14th Street
Another DC property owned by a historically-Black greek organization is poised for an affordable housing redevelopment.
Mid-Atlantic Neighborhood Development Corporation has filed a map amendment application to rezone the single-story building at 4411 14th Street NW (map) from MU-3A (low-density mixed-use) to MU-7A (medium-density mixed-use). The Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority has owned and been headquartered at the property for over 40 years.
While the application documents do not specify the plans, a letter of support from ANC 4C describes the development as housing 62 affordable senior units and a new 16,000 square-foot Xi Omega community center. Amenities will include a wellness center; there will also be parking off Arkansas Avenue NW.
A zoning hearing has not yet been scheduled.
Correction: An earlier version of this article identified the owner of the property as the Xi Omega chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. It is actually the Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
