Airbnb Launches Neighborhoods in DC

Want to find a Logan Circle-ish neighborhood in Berlin? Visiting DC and want a safe neighborhood with plenty of dining options?
This week, Airbnb launched “Neighborhoods”, a feature that help potential renters better diagnose the right neighborhood for their stay. DC was one of a handful of cities chosen for the initial launch.
Short-term renters can choose characteristics like “great transit,” “peace and quiet,” “nightlife,” and “loved by Washingtonians.” Airbnb will then give you a few neighborhoods to choose from; clicking on one will take you to its page which has photos, a longer description, and links to all of the Airbnb rentals available in that area. Here is a look at the entry for Foggy Bottom.
Airbnb seems to have a pretty good sense of DC’s neighborhoods. The description for Woodley Park — “Good, clean fun in a safe, respectable place” — seems apt, and the boozy description of Dupont Circle — “Champagne at brunch and gin at dinner” — must have required insider knowledge.
However, there are some questionable neighborhood/category pairings. For example, 16th Street Heights should probably be taken out of the section highlighting good neighborhoods for nightlife. And it is debatable if Mount Pleasant is known for its “shopping”.
