A Snowboarder's Micro-Unit
A snowboarder in California has given new meaning to the term micro-unit.
On Friday, The Wall Street Journal covered the 228 square-foot cabin of professional snowboarder Mike Basich near Lake Tahoe. Read the article to get the full off-the-grid feel, but a few highlights of the tiny and rugged property are listed below.
- The home measures out at 228 square feet with no bedroom and an outdoor bathroom. But it sits on 40 acres that Basich owns.
- Electricity comes from a solar panel and water from…the snow.
- His bedside reading — snowboard magazines and an appropriately-titled book called “Tiny Homes.”
- The home’s two luxuries — a solar-powered hot tub and a personal ski lift that will take Basich to do what he loves best.
