A First Look at 31-Unit Development That Will Replace Salvation Army Headquarters in DC's West End
The plans for the residences that will take the place of the former Salvation Army headquarters in DC's West End neighborhood are coming in to focus.
Velocity Property Management and Chevy Chase-based New Legacy Partners LLC purchased the 34,000-square-foot, five-story Salvation Army building at 2626 Pennsylvania Avenue NW (map) in January for $17 million. The development team filed plans with DC recently for a 31-unit condominium project that will take the place of the former headquarters.

The development team is proposing to demolish the building and build a new 9-story luxury condominium building in its place. The new residential units will range from one-bedrooms to three-bedrooms. The building, designed by Kasa Architecture, will retain the existing below-grade parking levels, and will be constructed to avoid blocking all existing windows on the adjacent condominium building.
The Salvation Army, which purchased the building in 1998, is moving its headquarters across the Potomac River to Old Town, Alexandria. The new residential building will join 2525 Penn as one of the few new residential offerings in the West End neighborhood.
