87-Unit Apartment Project on Anacostia's Main Drag Looks For Key Approval
A large apartment project in the works along one of Anacostia's main thoroughfares could get a key approval later this week.
Helin Investment has proposed a five-story mixed-use building at 1605-1607 Good Hope Road SE (map). The development, designed by Teass\Warren Architects, will have 87 apartments and 1,200 square feet of retail.

After revising the design, DC's Historic Preservation Office (HPO) is recommending that the Historic Preservation Review Board find the revised design to be compatible with the character of the Anacostia Historic District at its January meeting on Thursday.
"The revised design successfully integrates the fourth floor and sets the fifth floor back so that it will not be prominently visible," the HPO staff report stated. "The use of brick for the primary mass on Good Hope Road is consistent with the predominant building material found in the commercial area of the neighborhood, and the punched vertically-oriented windows also relates well to the patterns of fenestration in the historic district."
