Out of 100 cities nationwide with the largest rental markets, DC has the eighth-smallest apartments, with an average size of 745 square feet. Studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedroom apartments in the city have all gotten smaller over the last decade. One-bedrooms -- which make up 60% of new apartments -- saw average size drop by 55 square feet.
"Three-bedrooms were the only layout to gain space, adding 91 square feet, but they remain a niche offering, representing just 2% of new construction," the report stated.
