Plans appear to be moving forward to redevelop the Eastern Branch Boys and Girls Club in Hill East.
Morningstar Community Development has filed plans with DC's Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) to retrofit the boys and girls club at 261 17th Street SE (map) into a 34-unit all-affordable residential building. The building is designed by S27 Architecture.

It has been a pretty long road for the Eastern Branch Boys and Girls Club to get to this point. The club closed in 2007 and then DC acquired it three years later. In 2017, DMPED released a Request for Proposals and awarded Morningstar the right to negotiate for the Property’s disposition; late last year, the DC Council approved the property disposition.
A BZA hearing has not been scheduled yet for the new development.
