What $32 Million Buys You
The Friary on the Severn
The DC area (generously speaking) has a new most expensive home for sale. TTR Sotheby’s International Realty will privately list The Friary on the Severn, a 23-acre estate about 50 minutes from DC on Friday for $32 million. The estate is located just outside of Annapolis overlooking the Severn River.
The Spa
Originally built in 1922, the property was transformed into a friary in the 1930s when the Catholic Church bought it and added a chapel and dormitory to the original structure. In the 1970s, it reverted to sole proprietorship and changed hands several times until the current owners bought the estate in 2000. It had fallen into disrepair and a large family of raccoons were the primary inhabitants, so the new owners embarked on a multi-million dollar renovation.
The Library
The property now consists of a 25,000 square-foot main house with seven-bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a commercial size kitchen (and a separate catering kitchen), an oversized ballroom, an indoor spa, a wine cellar, a game room, a pool pavilion, a 60-foot infinity edge pool, a tennis court, a nine-car garage, and a work shop. There is a three-bedroom, two-bath guest house on the property, as well as an Asian tea house and a 6-slip private dock with a boat lift.
The Conservatory
The listing is not on the TTR Sotheby’s website, but it will be listed here in the coming days.
