The residential conversion on the boards for a high school in Shaw got the green light on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Board of Zoning Adjustment approved variances for conversion of a non-residential building and relief to create a non-conforming court. Hollow Creek’s Mike Wang told UrbanTurf the project timeline will be dictated by how quickly the city issues permits, but a best case scenario would be a completion date around the middle of next year.
The school building was designed and constructed by architect Albert Cassel in 1932 as a lodge for the Odd Fellows. It then became the Maya Angelou Public Charter School before becoming the site for Hospitality High School in 1998. Executive Director Michael Cucciardo told UrbanTurf earlier this year that the school is merging with DC Public Schools, and that the students will attend other academies in the city that focus on hospitality.
