$2,662 a Month: West End, Foggy Bottom Rents Make Most Expensive List

The West End and Foggy Bottom have long been known to have some of the highest apartments rents in the city and now the neighborhood rents are getting national attention.
Apartments.com recently released its list of most expensive neighborhoods for renters in the country and the two downtown DC neighborhoods ranked at #12 on the list. The rental apartment website found that the average rental rate for a one-bedroom in Foggy Bottom and West End came in at $2,662/month.
The neighborhoods with the three highest average rents for one-bedrooms are in New York and San Francisco:
1. New York City: Penn Plaza / Garment District – $4,440
2. New York City: DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) – $4,023
3. San Francisco: Yerba Buena – $3,643
In addition to having a couple of the most expensive neighborhoods for rent, DC also makes the list of zip codes where one-bedroom rents are lowest. In 20032, which includes Congress Heights, average one-bedroom rents come in at $769/month.
