In July 2009, a massive fire ravaged the home of DC luminary Peggy Cooper Cafritz along Chain Bridge Road NW. Even after the fire destroyed the home, things remained messy as lawsuits were filed against the city claiming that there wasn’t an adequate supply of water to fight the blaze.

When the large lot at 3030 Chain Bridge Road NW went under contract in 2012, the plan was to subdivide the lot and building several homes. However, plans clearly changed at some point as a massive 14,750 square-foot estate at the address hit the market yesterday for $20 million, making it the most expensive home for sale within the DC borders.

The eight-bedroom, 11.5-bath mansion was built by Banks Development, designed by Jones/Boer Architects and is listed with TTR Sotheby’s International Realty. The home is sited on a 35,000 square-foot lot made for large-scale entertaining. More details and photos below.
