What $3,000 Buys? An Overnight Experience on the Roof of the Watergate
If you were dismayed to find out you weren't selected for Airbnb's "Night at the Louvre" contest, unfurrow your brow: you can sleep beneath a transparent geometric shape much closer to home.
The Watergate Hotel has erected a "Glamping Globe" atop their new rooftop restaurant, enabling guests to book a "one-night stay under the stars". Described as "DC's only private rooftop Glamping Globe", the experience costs $3,000 for two guests.

The package also includes access to a hotel room on the top floor and a VIP table at the Top of the Gate. Other enticing features include a telescope for stargazing, a dedicated butler, roofside breakfast service, and "turndown service with eucalyptus essential oils".
The unique set-up is not without its rules, however. For example, quiet hours are from midnight to 7am; only two people are allowed in the tent (no visitors allowed); music is forbidden; recreational drugs, smoking and drunkenness are prohibited; and there are no guarantees of good weather. Guests would also be sharing the area of the roof near the tent until the restaurant closes for the night.
Brooklyn-based Terra Glamping provided the rooftop tent and also runs a glamping site in the Hamptons starting at $300 per night. The Top of the Gate restaurant opened last month.
