Three Days For a Firehouse Loft

This 720 square-foot penthouse on top of an old U Street firehouse was on the market for three days before it was snapped up. With a ski lodge feel, the one-bedroom taps into the history of the firehouse with creative uses of vertical space. Before the owner moved in, he gutted the space and reimagined it in the spirit of history. Along with his father, a local architect, he filled the space with locally-sourced materials — most notably oak wood from Pennsylvania for the floors and a spiral staircase from Baltimore — adding square footage and quirky features like a hidden storage space behind the fireplace in the process.

A Day For a Chevy Chase Tudor

This Chevy Chase Tudor featuring classic details like crown molding, leaded glass windows and the original stone fireplace spent just 24 hours on the market. Features that caught UrbanTurf's attention include the sitting room with stone flooring, and the unfinished basement workshop that could be redone with lofted ceilings and walk-out stairs. The open kitchen features granite counter space, cream-colored cabinetry and silver finishes. Upstairs, the primary suite includes a walk-in closet and a full bathroom. Outside, the large yard space comes with plans for a pool installation, and there is also a detached garage.
