In this week’s Top 5 Bites find out where you’ll soon be able to get your gelato fix in Northeast and pick up charcuterie on Georgia Avenue.
A Chill in Northeast
If you’re a fan of Dolcezza Gelato, but don’t live close to their NW DC locations, you’re in luck. The gelato shop will be opening their “factory” with tasting room and coffee lab on December 7 at 55 Penn Street NE (map). In addition to being able to watch the gelato being produced, patrons will be able to taste and purchase gelato as well as sample and buy coffee from Stumptown Roasters.
The Butcher of Georgia Avenue
Urban Butcher from chef/owner Raynold Mendizabal will be opening at 8226 Georgia Avenue (map) in Silver Spring this December. The new spot will feature a large menu of in-house butchered cuts and cured meats, pâtés, and sausages. During the day you can stop by for a coffee at the coffee bar, which turns into a lounge in the evening.
Getting Crabby
Joe’s Stone Crab has announced it will be opening its DC location on January 24 at 740 15th Street NW (map), according to Washingtonian. Along with stone crab claws there will be seafood galore, including Maryland blue crabs, and items from the original location like lyonnaise potatoes and key lime pie.

A Yard of Tacos
Korean taco truck TaKorean joins a collection of new restaurants opening at The Yards, including Bluejacket/The Arsenal, Sweetgreen, 100 Montaditos, Italian restaurant Osteria Morini, and Latin restaurant Agua 301. According to Washington City Paper, the new spot will offer offer rice bowls in addition to the usual tacos and salad bowls. The restaurant will also be applying for a liquor license to serve beer and soju.
New Mexican for Shaw
A new restaurant from Chef Richard Sandoval will be opening at 1547 7th Street NW (map), according to Eater. The restaurant will serve Mexican food, and include a carryout business, but will be different from the chef’s current Mexican concept El Centro. Additional details are forthcoming.
