This Week's Find: Intent on Glover Park
2325 37th Street NW, #2
This Week's Find is a column that is normally reserved for amazing feats of architecture or homes that have secret rooms built into them. However, this week, we look at a more "normal" listing.
Three years ago, Sarah Bernardi and her husband moved back to DC from Charleston, SC, and were intent on living in one neighborhood.
"We knew we wanted to be in Glover Park but were worried we wouldn't find a place we could afford that had the level of charm we required!" Bernardi told UrbanTurf.
Kitchen into living room
After looking all over the neighborhood at dozens of condos, the couple came across a two-bedroom unit that reminded them of a place they might find in their old city.
"Although it's a one-story condo, it feels a lot like living in a house with windows on three sides, a front and back door, a mud room leading from the back patio, and a separately deeded parking place," Bernardi said.
Closet turned den
The building where the unit is located was built in 1924, and when the Bernardis moved in the kitchen and bath were functional, but the couple decided to redo them, choosing honed marble for the kitchen counters and subway tile and marble flooring for the bathroom. They also got innovative with the space that they had, turning a walk-in closet into an office/den.
The two have enjoyed getting to meet their neighbors (one who provides treats for their dog) and entertaining (dinners for 8 are a regular occurrence at their unit). Their decision to sell was driven by work, rather than a desire to find a bigger place, and they are sad to be leaving.
Back patio
"If it weren't for my husband working in Rockville, we would stay forever," Sarah Bernardi said. "We are looking to move a bit further north to lessen his commute."
