When people in the DC area think of McLean, what usually comes to mind in terms of the area’s housing stock are sprawling McMansion-like homes on large plots of land. A home being built at 1268 Beverly Road will break from this mold.
When complete later this summer, the 4,500 square-foot house will have a modern design that will make it stand out from the traditional homes that surround it. Owner Nick Perez told UrbanTurf that the home’s design, which he conceived, is comprised of “a sleek, minimalist wing composed of smooth white stucco” that connects to a wing made of Western Red cedar via anodized aluminum window framing and reflective glass.

The four-bedroom house will have a gallery-style living area, dining area and kitchen that will spread 50-feet by 22-feet. The focal point of this section of the house will be the corner glass, a design term for floor-to-ceiling glass that makes the corner of the house look like it is being held up without any visible support. (Cantilevered steel will actually be used to hold up the roof and walls, so there is no pressure on the glass itself.)
In addition to four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, the home will also have a den and a library, a rectangular pool, and even an outdoor shower. That last amenity was one that Perez wanted after getting accustomed to the rooftop shower at his previous home, a unit at Woodson Row on 12th Street in the U Street Corridor.
The home is being built by John Cooper of Cooper & Willmore Stellar Homes. When complete, Perez will not put the home on the market, but rather live there with his wife and two children.
