The most expensive home to ever be listed in Chevy Chase, DC is about to re-enter the market.
Built almost a century ago, 5320 27th Street NW will hit the market in mid-January for about $9.5 million. The five-bedroom, eight-bath estate spreads out over 13,000 square feet at the edge of Rock Creek Park. It will be listed with Patrick Chauvin of Compass.
While the luxury listing has the usual trappings of a home carrying this price tag -- movie theater, walk-in wine cellar, tennis courts and pool -- there are some interesting historic aspects as well.
The wrought iron fence and gates of the home came from The White House, after the previous gates at the presidential residence were not deemed adequate enough following an attempted attack on President Truman in 1950. There is a Civil War cannon on the grounds, as well as an old trolley station in the rear gardens that once stood in front of a U.S. Senate office building.
