The Columbia Heights-Tivoli North Debate Returns
The neighborhood name-change debate is back. Prince of Petworth is reporting that there will be a meeting tonight at Harriet Tubman Elementary School at 7pm to discuss and vote on a proposed name change for a portion Columbia Heights.
The area for the proposed name change would be along 14th Street between Monroe Street and Shepherd Street. That area technically falls in Columbia Heights, but the new names apparently include Tivoli North and Tivoli North Corridor.
But perhaps there is a larger issue at stake as some folks don’t think DC really has neighborhoods. A comment from the post:
“Folks. Who cares what your neighborhood is called. DC doesn’t officially have neighborhoods! We have wards, anc’s, police districts, etc. etc. But, contrary to what anyone pulls from wikipedia, Columbia Heights is just an abstract concept with no actual boundaries.”
