UrbanTurf usually stays away from publishing rankings or lists…except at the end of the year when we look back at the best that DC’s residential real estate scene had to offer during the previous 12 months. So, this week we are looking at not only the best but the most intriguing and peculiar things that came across our radar over the course of 2015. Enjoy.
DC is now a town replete with high-end, luxurious homes that appeal to the city’s growing, well-heeled clientele. So, finding a listing that should be highlighted above all others for a given year is not an easy task. Here is our favorite for this year: A six-bedroom townhouse in Georgetown that was gutted and fully renovated by its former race car-driving owner.

Will Langhorne, who used to race for Porsche, and his wife Samar spent two years renovating the home that was completed with the assistance of architect Rixey & Rixey in 2013. The front door of the four-level house provides a sense of the high-end design that lies inside. The pivoted entrance weighs 1,000 pounds and switches from clear to translucent with the touch of a button.

There is a media room on the ground level with a built-in 4K projector, a glass elevator that connects all the levels and a master suite that takes up the top level and has an open bathroom that, like the front door, has an adjacent glass wall that can be made translucent by pressing a button.

Kitchen
The second level of the home houses a kitchen designed by Bulthaup, a company that creates kitchens to also function as living spaces. Folding doors adjacent to the living area on this level open to a garden terrace with a heated pool, a rare feature for DC’s toniest neighborhood.

Master bedroom suite
The price tag, just shy of $10 million, puts it out of reach for all but the highest net-worth individuals in DC, but the home is representative of the city’s growing market for uber high-end real estate.
