It's that time of year again when UrbanTurf reflects on some of DC’s most interesting real estate topics from the last 12 months. This week, we refresh your memory on some of the best, most intriguing and most peculiar things we came across throughout 2019. Enjoy.
For those of us who aren’t pulling in the money for a multi-million dollar house, UrbanTurf sorted through the hundreds of more reasonably-priced listings featured on the site this year to come up with our favorite. The winner: A converted schoolhouse loft on Capitol Hill.
This 1,000 square-foot one bedroom spans the top floor of the Lovejoy Lofts, a school building between the Atlas District and Stanton Park that was retrofit into condos in 2003, and which UrbanTurf is particularly fond of.

UrbanTurf likes this particular unit largely because of the architectural features from the building's previous life that it takes advantage of, like stained concrete floors, exposed exhaust, and a series of painted wooden beams and triangular trusses along the hall into the main living area.
The bedroom occupies a lofted space at the top of the unit, and the kitchen with a small breakfast bar island is tucked beneath that area. There is a dining nook beneath a slanted accent wall across from the kitchen as well as a skylit living area with a pitched ceiling and a brick accent wall.
The unit went on the market at the end of September and went under contract about a month later. More details below.
