The 5 Tallest Buildings in the Works in the DC Area Will All Be in the Same Place

As some jurisdictions in the DC area grapple with varying extents of height restrictions, one area is aiming for the sky. Below we take a look at the five tallest buildings in the works for the region, which all happen to be at one development in Tysons Corner.

The View at Tysons was approved two years ago and is planned to eventually add six buildings near Spring Hill Metro station (map). Helmed by Clemente Development Company and designed by Gensler, the buildings include:

• The Iconic will be the focal point of the development, a 600 foot-tall office building that works out to 400 feet of occupiable space topped by a 200 foot-tall architectural element. 
• Building C-1 will also be an office tower and it will be the second-tallest building in the complex, topping out at 455 feet.

• Building C-2B will be the tallest residential building in the region. It will have 35 stories and top out at 421 feet. 
• Building D-1 will be a residential/hotel building rising to 394 feet tall, totaling 31 stories. 
• Building C-2A will be a 389 foot-tall, 32-story residential building.

The sixth building in the complex ("The Landing") will be a measly 133 feet tall.

As for other planned buildings that could eventually join the ranks of the tallest in the area, they include: 

• JM Zell Partners is working on plans for the four-building Carlyle Park residential development near Eisenhower Avenue Metro in Alexandria, which will have a building that will top out at approximately 386 feet.
• Plans are also in the works to build a new hotel/residential project on the former site of a Holiday Inn in Rosslyn. The Dittmar development will include a 288-foot-tall residential tower and a 379 foot-tall hotel tower.
• This may or may not be the eighth-tallest roofline on the boards, but as proposed, the Helix at HQ2 could be as tall as 350 feet at its apex.
