A 22-unit condo development made up of shipping containers is planned for the 1600 block of Kramer Street NE (map) in Rosedale. Neighborhood Development Company (NDC) and Travis Price Architects are collaborating on the proposed project.
Travis Price Architects also designed Edgewood’s shipping container apartments, which were completed in mid-2014.

The 22 residences would be built like rowhouses, with two units per three-story house. The homes would be built 16 feet wide and the units would be about 1,200 square feet each. Each would have a walk-in closet and a balcony. Forty percent of the homes would be designated affordable.
The site of the proposed project is a DC-owned lot. The city’s Department of Housing and Community Development will make a decision as to who will develop the lot in the near future. The Travis Price-NDC team is in competition with two other projects.
Travis Price previously told UrbanTurf that the reuse of the shipping containers for the building structure inspires the design of his projects from start to finish. NDC and TPA said the Rosedale project would include “a variety of green elements that conserve resources, reduce waste and offer a high-end modernity.”
