Relay Foods, an online marketplace for local foods, announced its expansion to the DC area on Tuesday.
The Charlottesville-based company partners with merchants, vendors and stores to serve as an alternative way that these business can distribute their products, including local meat, dairy and produce. Relay Foods customers shop for local goods online during the day, their orders are picked up and aggregated by Relay Foods that night and then are sent to a pick-up location in the city where the order was placed.
Relay Foods expansion to DC coincides with the company’s acquisition of Arganica Farm Club, a Virginia-based food club that delivers local goods to customers once a week throughout the year.
While Relay Foods has expanded to DC, it appears that the pick-up locations for customers will not be established for several weeks.
