Now Selling: A 16th Street Heights Victorian on an Island of Its Own
Occupying the realm of DC real estate fantasies, a six-bedroom Victorian-esque home hit the market in 16th Street Heights yesterday. The immaculate 100-year-old house is adorned with romantic covered porches and spacious decks; surrounded by masterful landscaping; and is located on an island of land all its own.
Built on a triangle bordered by Piney Branch Road, Gallatin Street and Iowa Avenue, 5006 Piney Branch NW is one of just a handful of DC properties that stand alone on a city block. The enchanting 1913 Victorian was designed and reimagined into a Second French Empire style home by Washington native Elizabeth Bea Meltzer, who completed two extensive renovations—one of which included raising the pitched roof to a Mansard roof that allowed for the addition of a palatial third floor primary bedroom suite.
“I’m honored to have had the opportunity to love it so much,” says Meltzer, the fifth owner of the stately home. “And I’d be so excited if someone were to come in and adore it as much as we have.”
The home is grand in scale and has no shortage of thoughtful design touches. Through a generously scaled entryway, the living and dining rooms feature two striking fireplaces with mirrored glass surrounds, leaded glass windows, high coffered ceilings with black detailed trim, and hardwood oak floors. You’ll find designer lighting, extensive millwork and crown molding throughout, as well as custom-built -in shelving and multiple pocket doors.
The luxurious third-floor bedroom suite boasts a dressing room with a mirrored glass vanity, a private washer and dryer, a spa-inspired luxury bathroom, a dramatic sitting room, a private office area, custom built-ins with museum lighting and hardwood floors. Additionally, there are four large bedrooms and two full bathrooms on the second level. One of those bedrooms also includes a private covered porch with tree-top views.
New additions to the home include a sitting room (by Meridian Homes); and a chef-inspired kitchen and breakfast/living rooms (by Centerline design), which are sunlit by oversized windows. The home also has a lower-level recreation room, exercise and utility spaces, and a fully realized guest suite with a private exterior entrance.
The grounds of the home were just as well thought out as the interior and include a three-car paver driveway with a Tesla charger; a large synthetic lawn; several evergreens and flowering bushes; and several patio destination areas.
5006 Piney Branch Road NW is selling for $2.5M and an open house will be held for the property this weekend. For more details, visit the property online here or contact Compass agent Margie Halem at 301-775-4196 or Margie@compass.com.
