No "Mini-Union Market" Planned for Hill East

Rendering of 1401 Penn
Over the weekend, prolific DC bar blog Barred in DC reported rather exciting news that a mini Union Market concept was coming to CAS Riegler’s new residential development in Hill East called 1401 Penn.
However, on Monday, the developer disputed the report, as did the planned retail partner, the Neighborhood Restaurant Group (NRG).

“The blog post from Barred in DC is erroneous, not to mention premature as we have no finalized plans to work together on the 1401 Penn project,” Amber Pfau, marketing communications director for NRG wrote to UrbanTurf. “To be clear, NRG is not planning a ‘mini Union Market’ for 1401 Penn, or anyplace else for that matter.”
Barred in DC has since revised their original post, but for what it’s worth, the idea of a mini Union Market concept in Hill East sounds great to UrbanTurf.
Ground is expected to break on 1401 Penn this year at 1401-1433 Pennsylvania Avenue SE (map). Antunovich Associates has designed a seven-story building that will deliver 167 apartments above 23,500 square feet of ground-floor retail and a below-grade garage.
