New Renderings Highlight 5,000 Square-Foot Residence at The Helicopter Factory
The redevelopment of a factory that used to make parts for helicopters in Columbia Heights will include one of the largest homes to be built in the neighborhood in recent memory.
Brook Rose Development and Brick Lane Real Estate are partnering on the redevelopment of the properties at 770-774 Girard Street NW (map) into The Helicopter Factory. When complete, the warehouses will include fourteen duplex units, and one massive, 5,000 square-foot, three-level residence.

The mansion warehouse will have a 50-foot-by-50-foot footprint, 15-foot ceilings, and a 1,500 square-foot courtyard that the development team envisions will be used as entertainment space or as parking for the residence. On the top level, there will be a wraparound roof deck set up for indoor/outdoor entertaining. The project was designed by Urban Design Group out of Baltimore, a firm that specializes in the redesign of warehouses. TTR Sotheby’s International Realty is handling sales.
While helicopters were never built on-site, the project name pays homage to Emile Berliner, an inventor who used the warehouse in the late 19th- and early 20th century to develop materials to build airplane and helicopter engines.
