New Details on Petworth Safeway-Residential Project

Back in August 2010, shortly after the apartment section of CityVista in Mount Vernon Triangle was sold, it was reported that one of the developers of that project, Reston-based Duball LLC, was in negotiations to bring a new Safeway and a 210-unit residential project to 3830 Georgia Avenue NW (map) in Petworth.
Recently, Prince of Petworth had a post with a slew of new details about the project including the size of the Safeway (60,000 square feet making it the largest in the city) and its delivery date (if all goes well, 2013 or early 2014). PoP also reported that there will be two floors of underground parking with a total of 220 spaces and five residential floors will be built on top of the Safeway (a la CityVista), but it has yet to be determined if those will be condos or apartments. If the sales pace at CityVista, which also has a Safeway on its ground floor, is any indication the Petworth project will be quite successful once complete. Marc Dubick of Duball LLC (who formerly worked with Lowe Enterprises, which developed CityVista) echoed this sentiment in an August 2010 story in The Washington Post about the new project:
Dubick, who left Lowe on June 30, said the success of CityVista, built on a vacant property that once housed a wax museum, shows that a grocery store has the ability to help create a neighborhood around it and that he was eager to find another deal like it.
