Mortgage Rates Poised to Drop To 5.5% in 2024, Per Survey

A new survey calls for long-term mortgage rates to fall well below 6% this year.
Respondents to the latest Bloomberg Markets Live Pulse Survey think that 30-year fixed mortgage rates will drop to 5.5% by the end of 2024. That would be down more than a full percentage points from current rates.

“The worst is over for the housing market, but a full recovery will be slow in coming,” Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, said. “Mortgage rates should continue to trend lower this year.”
Freddie Mac will release its weekly rates this Thursday at noon.
