New details and images have been unveiled for Amazon's first Virginia office building.
On Wednesday night, staff from Arlington County, Amazon and other members of the development team hosted the first of several meetings introducing the Metropolitan Park project and explaining how the review and approval process will commence. While questions from the public were relegated to the unstructured "open house" portion of the evening, representatives from ZGF Architects also unveiled several new renderings.
Amazon is proposing to construct two 22-story mixed-use office towers at the Metropolitan Park site in the 1400 block of S. Eads Street (map), delivering over two million square feet for office use, over 55,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, and a daycare. The development would also have 1,968 spaces of below-grade parking, along with 500 spaces of employee bike storage.
The development would also group loading docks together on 13th and Elm Streets in order to turn 14th Street into the public gateway to the park, transforming the block between Eads and the park at the center into a curbless shared street. Met Park would also feature Amazon's signature community banana stand, popular kiosks where over 1.7 million bananas were given away on the company's Seattle campus within one year.
The Planning Commission committee will begin reviewing the site plan next Monday. Additional renderings are below.
