Airbnb has introduced a new component of its platform that marks a significant shift from its traditional focus on accommodations.
Airbnb Services, introduced on Tuesday, offers an array of services across ten categories, such as private chefs, personal trainers, massage therapists, hairstylists, makeup artists, and photographers. These services are now available through Airbnb, with prices starting under $50, and can be booked independently of an Airbnb stay.
The goal with the new component is to bridge the amenity gap between Airbnb rentals and traditional hotels. By offering services like in-home meals by chefs, spa treatments, and personalized fitness sessions, Airbnb is hoping to provide a more comprehensive and customizable travel experience like one might have at a hotel.
The Airbnb app has been redesigned to recommend homes, experiences, and services based on the user's location and preferences. Service providers can apply to offer their services through Airbnb.
